My wife and I visited the El Charro Mexican Restaurant in Ankeny. It seems to be your typical Americanized Mexican Restaurant. We were greeted at the door and were seated immediately. Chips, salsa, and odd mayo sauce was placed before us. The chips and salsa were fresh- we did try strange dip and we just did not care for it. We ordered a couple cokes and our dinner. We thought we would try the Fajitas Charras for 2. It is a very large sizziling plate of bell peppers, sauteed onions, chicken, beef, shrimp, beef ribs, and chorizo. We each got our own plate with 3 tortillas, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, rice, and beans. Food arrived pretty quickly and our server was very attentive. Pretty good stuff. They have a huge menu from salads, combination dinners, steaks, vegetarian, and seafood dishes. Our meal and drinks came to about $24 bucks.
