Cazador in Ankeny is a locally family owned restaurant with some American and authentic mexican fare mixed in. We stopped in for a quick dinner from a recommendation from a friend. I will start out by saying that I am alway hesitant about eating a restaurant attached to a hotel. I just never find this so appealing- especially a Days Inn. Come to find out it really is not attached- just looks that way. We loved that the place was busy- that is always a good sign. We sat down and were served the traditional chips and salsa. The chips were homemade and still warm which were delicious. We ordered some queso cheese dip which arrived in cup. The cheese queso was creamy white and delicious. Salsa was good too.
Plenty variety on the menu- to a point I had to ask what the popular dish was - never really got a recommendation. After a few minutes we ordered our dishes and waited for about 10 minutes for our meals to arrive. My wife ordered chicken enchiladas with a mole sauce. I ordered a combination meal with a taco and and two beef enchiladas. Both meals included rice and refried beans.
We thought the food was pretty good and very similar to other mexican restaurants serving Americanized mexican food. Would it be worth visiting again?- sure. Pretty good service, full bar, and large tables for groups or families.
